For all divisions except for Showcases and Teams, the competition will commence with Preliminary Rounds, where all competitors will dance at the same time "All Skate".
The judges will choose a maximum of 6 couples from the preliminary rounds for the finals.
During the finals, each couple will dance spotlight (solo) for a short time (8 x 8 counts), and then everyone will complete the rest of the track together in "All Skate".
The idea is to have fun, dance to the music, work with your partner, and capture the joy of swing music and swing dancing that we all experience.
This will feature several divisions with radically different approaches :

• 1. Jack & Jill : You just get out there on the floor and compete for fun.
• 2. Strictly Swing : You dance with your partner your best SWING (Lindy, Balboa, Charleston, Shag, ... ) any partner swing dance is good as long as it's swing.
  BUT to the music played by our DJ master.
  Show us how musical, creative and swingy your partner and you can be.
• 3. Swing Showcase : couples perform a routine to their own music, song length to be between 2 and 3 1/2 minutes. Showcase couples to draw for placement and turn in music between 120bpm - 240bpm at the registration desk on Friday. Limited to 20 couples, but additional couples may be added at the discretion of the Judge.
• 4. Performance Teams (Troupes) : People will work on putting together an impressive routine (choreography, costumes, music, surprising moves, synchronized evolutions, perfect timing). minimum of three couples to perform a routine to their own music, song length to be between 3 and 4 1/2 minutes.

All contests are "anything goes" - lifts, drops, aerials permitted.
* We reserve the right to cancel any contest that does not have at least five couples as of the day of the event.
* Please note formats of all contests subject to change without notice, as determined by number of competitors.
* Costumes are encouraged and appreciated !

The DJ and/or Orchestra will focus on playing music from the "Swing Era" and will play 3 tracks/Set at slow, medium and fast tempos during each round.

We have secured some of the finest Teachers and Competitors in the world. All contests are judged with a "SWING" concept in mind - we go for a 50/50 system ; 50% the three "Ts" (Timing, Technique & Teamwork) and 50% Showmanship (consisting of presentation, creativity, costumes, & difficulty). We're not looking for perfection, but we are looking for a little heart & soul, and the spirit of the SWING !
